The Werner Stamm Foundation is a member of the EAZA, the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, and participates in its conventions. The umbrella association EAZA is the most important organisation of the scientifically managed zoos in Europe.
As a member of the Species Committee for the Somali Wild Ass, the foundation is deeply committed to the rescue of this big game species - currently facing the highest risk of extinction.
However, another focus of commitment right now is the onager. This subspecies of the Asiatic wild ass is also in dire need of support, as it is also highly endangered.
Wild equids from Oberwil's breeding station have already been placed in many European zoos and reserves: some even outside of Europe, as far away as Jordan.
Every time we succeed in supporting owners (established or new) in donating young animals of an endangered wild equid species, we move one step closer to our objective of rescuing this species.
